Father's Day is coming!!!

I lost my dad 6 years ago and I really miss him, one thing I remember about my dad was spending time with him in our garden, yard and on our farm. He loved farming, any time he was growing anything he was happy! I learned a lot from him about gardening, from how to prepare the soil to when to harvest. Dad believed that your equipment for prep work, etc. was extremely important and he never bought anything but a John Deere. This Father's Day, Rick's House was able to bring in a long time friend of his program, Mike Ballou who is the equipment manager with the John Deere Company. June 18th, John Deere through one of there dealers, Beard Equipment Company, will be giving away a brand new John Deere riding mower. Do something special for your dad for Father's Day and register him to win that new mower on our sister station's website, WPAP in Panama City, Florida. You can also catch Mike Ballou that morning, June 18th, on Rick's House Radio Show from 7-9am, tune in and have some fun and who knows, maybe YOUR dad will win!! The Mrs............................

Me and my Green Thumb!

Do you have a green thumb? Well, I use to think I did! When we lived in Atlanta and Knoxville, I could grow most anything but this coastal living is not conducive for green beans, okra and corn! Bayer Advaced can grow anything, anywhere and thanks to Lance Walheum, their spokes person, I am learning many things about growing on the coast. Bayer Advanced is having a contest for a 10,000.00 yard make over, all you have to do is go to their website or their facebook page and register to win! I wonder if I could register......Rick said no, oh well but you can! Good Luck!! The Mrs..........

Hurry up Spring!!!!!

I love to garden!! It's so relaxing to me to grow and nurture veggies but it hasn't always been that way. I remember when I was about 10 years old, I had to pick beans! I would sweat so much....I hated it! It's funny how the very thing we hated as kids we enjoy as adults. I have struggled with my garden in Florida, everything is sooner or a different variety or citrus....not like the hills of east Tennessee. I have researched and found that I can grow a lot more and all year round but it's all about knowing my area. I would encourage you to contact your state university and find out when and what you can grow in your area. It can be a relaxing family activity, maybe I'll make my boys pick beans this year, who knows! The Mrs.............

New Station!!

Rick's House has a new home!! This has been an odd past few years in media to say the least. We have been on quite a few stations in the past 3 years try to find a "flagship' station who would embrace our show and give us the support we need with the up most professionalism and I believe we have found it. Rick's House is now heard on Fox News Channel a Clear Channel Station, WFLA 94.5 a 100,000 watt FM station. We have not been on 100,000 watt station since Citidel in Knoxville, TN, before they file reorganization and split from 100.3. Radio stations have struggled, along with everything else since the economy has been in a slump, and there has been a lot of restructuring. We have struggled along with it but now we are soooo excited to be a part of Fox News Team and Clear Channel. Our times have changed from 7-9 am but our day is still the same, Saturdays. Tune in and listen, if not on the radio on the web, rickshouseradio.com or wfla 94.5 or visit talkshoe.com. Hope everyone had a great holiday season and your new year is one of cheer and love!! Merry Christmas!!!

I hope you and yours have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!! I look forward to this time of year for lots of reasons but one in particular is the FOOD!! The cheese balls, honey ham, egg nog, fudge, candy, I could go on and on! We enjoy cooking around the holidays,Rick does especially! Believe it or not, he is a great cook! I wanted to share one of my favorites that he fixes, usually after Christmas, with the left over ham. Depending on how much ham is left depends on how much he makes....You will need onion, 3 different types of hard cheeses of your choice(we use cheddar, monterey and mozzarella, garlic powder, adobe seasoning, onion powder and mayonaise. The key to this is you have to use a food chopper with every ingredient. Mix everything well(he doesn't measure anything so I'm not sure but to tell you,add to taste). You can use it as a spread and serve with corn chips(fritos) or make it a little dry and make it into a ball, then roll in crushed pecans and serve with crackers. I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as I do this holiday season and if you have any of your favorite holiday receipes....please share!! Waiting to hear from you, email me at rickshouseradio@gmail.com. Merry Christmas and Happy Eating, The Mrs...............

RECYCLE THAT!!!

I love to recycle! Anything that I can reuse I try and do, after all, our landfills are full of things that take years to break down, anything we can do, even small, can help a great deal. I love to recycle things from my kitchen especially, things I purchase at the grocery store that's a perfectly good storage container often work great for other things. We drink Maxwell House coffee and I buy the large tubs with the handle....wow, what a great storage container, you can store Q-tips,cotton balls, fingernail polish or even drill bits, nails and much more in these handy containers with lids! I also save my Parmesan cheese containers! I store salt, powdered sugar and I mix my own spices in them....they are great for lots of stuff. How about those wine bottles? I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease 17 years ago and my doctor recommended I drink red wine everyday, so I did! I buy the gallon table wine in the pretty glass jugs and boy have I had fun with those! You can take the metal lid and put a slit in it and paint the glass.... POOF, you have a bank! I also have a sea shell collection that I store in these beautiful glass jugs, and you can also take lights and stuff them in the jugs, place them behind your shrubbery or on your deck....PRETTY, especially for Christmas or Halloween! I love recycling, it's a challenge for me and I would like to challenge you!! What can you recycle this week or month? You might find yourself thinking the next time you go to throw the next Gatorade bottle away or coffee jug, "what could I use that for?" Happy recycling, The Mrs...................
